De beste Europese festivals, artiesten en promoters van 2010 werden onthuld tijdens een uitverkochte ceremonie in de Groningse Stadsschouwburg, op de openingsavond van Eurosonic Noorderslag.
Opgezet als een combinatie van een online publieke stemming en vakjury uit de muziekindustrie, is de EFA uitreiking het enige pan-Europese evenement dat zich richt op de bijdragen en verdiensten van de organisatoren en artiesten die geld doorvloeien naar de nationale en internationale economie en de tientallen miljoenen muziekliefhebbers plezier brengen middels de festivals in de zomer. Meer dan 350.000 uitgebrachte stemmen bepaalden de winnaars in de volgende categorieën:
Best Major European Festival: Heineken Open'er Festival - Polen
Best Medium-Sized European Festival: Electric Picnic Music & Arts Festival - Ierland
Best Small European Festival: 5 Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festival - Polen
Best New European Festival: Temple House Festival - Ierland
Best Indoor Festival: Rolling Stone Weekender - Duitsland
Best European Festival Line-Up : Oxegen - Ierland
Best Newcomer: Florence and the Machine
Best Headliner: Muse
Festival Anthem of the Year: Muse - Uprising
De volgende winnaars werden gekozen door een jury bestaande uit prominente muziek journalisten, agenten, managers, artiesten en promoters:
Yourope Green ‘N’ Clean Festival Of The Year: Boom Festival – Portugal
Artist’s Favourite European Festival – Melt! - Duitsland
Virtual Festivals Europe presents Promoter Of The Year: Kilimanjaro/K2
Yourope Lifetime Achievement Award: Leif Skov
Stefan Lehmkuhl van het Duitse Melt Festival was verbaasd de Award voor Artist’s Favourite European Festival te winnen: “It was the greatest honour” en voegde daaraan toe dat “according to Noel Gallagher Melt Festival looks like the inside of Marilyn Manson’s head”.
Leif Skov, een van de oprichters van het Deense Roskilde Festival, ontving de Lifetime Achievement Award. In een ontroerende en inspirerende speech zei hij: “People and music together can move mountains and change opinions. And through all of our work with our festivals we have invented and defined for the world a new set of values that lie above and beyond a standard set of values that can be measured.”
James Drury, directeur van Festival Awards Ltd, de organisatie achter Festival Awards Europe: “With over 350,000 votes and a 37% increase in the number of events our second edition demonstrated the breath and strength of feeling among fans and festivals across the continent. This was a great celebration of the world leading festival scene."
Christof Huber, Secretaris Generaal YOUROPE: “It was a major step forward from last year’s awards. We are really looking forward to the next edition and are confident that they will continue to go from strength to strength.
