“I remember the first time hearing her voice... I instantly knew she was destined to be one of the greatest” NAS
“Jools loved Amy straight away – her honesty as a vocalist, songwriter and Londoner…Britain has produced a lot of brilliant female singer-songwriters and vocalists in the last decade or so, many from Beth Gibbons to Adele, rooted in older black American forms, soul and jazz and blues. But there was only ever one Amy Winehouse. She was frank and fresh and haunted. And we miss her.” Mark Cooper BBC
“Amy Winehouse At The BBC”, a four-disc collection chronicling the many remarkable performances by arguably the greatest and most genuine talent to emerge in British music in decades, will be released on November 12th. Spread across three DVDs, and one CD, this comprehensive collection captures the strong and enduring relationship that Amy enjoyed with the BBC and is further proof of quite what an extraordinarily talented, completely original, and truly engaging performer Amy was.
The Special Edition box set includes Amy’s earliest BBC Radio sessions, her first ever TV performances, as well as candid interviews, rarely seen footage, unheard gems, rarities, unique covers and live versions of classic songs from “Frank” and “Back To Black”. The set also includes a beautifully illustrated booklet featuring rare photographs, a deeply touching appreciation from her friend, rap superstar, Nas, extensive sleeve notes by the Sunday Times Culture’s Dan Cairns as well as the thoughts of BBC producer Mark Cooper who worked closely with Amy on many of the highlights of the set.
Disc 1 is a DVD selection of recordings chosen by Later presenter, songwriter and musician Jools Holland, Disc 2 is a 14-song audio selection dating from 2004 to 2009, while Disc 3 features Amy’s memorable Porchester Hall sessions. “Amy Winehouse – The Day She Came to Dingle” (Disc 4), perhaps the centrepiece of the box set, is a short film featuring a fascinating interview with the artist intercut with Amy, at the height of her powers, delivering an electrifying 20 minute live performance recorded in December 2006 in a tiny church.
Like Amy’s three previous albums, this new collection will prove, once more, a fitting tribute to her peerless artistry, phenomenal talent, and extraordinary powers as a songwriter, a singer and an interpreter of classics.
The Estate of Amy Winehouse is donating the record royalties it receives from the sale of this box set to the Amy Winehouse Foundation. www.amywinehousefoundation.co.uk
