Music often finds a home in destinations and as Holland moves into limelight for cutting-edge electronic music, Amsterdam’s leading events and festival platform, VOLTT unleashes the first episode in its mix series mixed by the nation’s most admired artist, Bart Skils. Amsterdam has fast been approaching the forefront of contemporary dance music. An ever-growing group of quality producers from the Dutch capital is dominating the international horizon with a distinctive cutting edge sound while industry event Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) and local festivals such as VOLTT Loves Summer are spearheading the current climate in an inspiring new context. A new school Dutch army of artists has formed including the exceptional talents of 2000 And One, Joris Voorn, Shinedoe, Kabale und Liebe, Julien Chaptal, Polder, Anton Pieete and Bart Skils, VOLTT head honcho and one of Holland’s most beloved deejays. The first and foremost platform for Amsterdam’s new generation has been VOLTT. From 1998 until the present day, it has enriched the scene with quality events and festival experiences, booking the best in forward-thinking techno and esoteric house from abroad and always keeping a keen eye on developments in the local scene. VOLTT Loves Summer Festival is now in its fourth year and voted in the top 10 festivals by Resident Advisor. Internationally acclaimed artists like David Labeij, Lauhaus, Polder, Julien Chaptal and Boris Werner had their first shows at VOLTT nights and now VOLTT has started this mix series to broaden its reach as an international
platform for Amsterdam’s promising new techno generation. True to its roots, Volume 1 is mixed by none other than Bart Skils, the driving force of VOLTT that has been resident since its birth and is actively engaged as its promoter. For over a decade he has become one of Holland’s most respected techno/house artists, a local hero in the late nineties, in a similar vein to Craig Richards at Fabric.
Building his reputation record by record, set by set and night by night, Bart has gained nationwide popularity as an ambassador for quality sounds. His international breakthrough was sealed by a series of solid productions on local labels Pure Plastic and 100 % Pure – solo, and together with Anton Pieete under their District One moniker. For this mix, Bart has selected a solid collection of tracks that represent his timeless performances at VOLTT and also those of Holland’s new generation. Tracks such as David Labeij ‘Shakedown’, Lauhaus ‘Give It Up’, Julien Chaptal ‘Mamdaye‘, Anton Pieete ‘Encore/ Size’ and his own ‘Catwalk’ are all exemplary of Holland’s distinct and catchy techno sound. Nodding to the Dutch tribe within each choice cut, the project also touches on discerning productions from fresh talent from the far reaches of the globe such as Nick Curly, Alex Celler, Mark Henning and Simon Baker. As can be expected of one of the nation’s most solid jocks, the sixteen tracks are forged into one big chunk of techno mayhem that keeps you on your tippy toes from beginning to end. The best news is this is only the beginning, this mix is to be followed by a series of volumes, introducing more of Amsterdam’s new school king pins and sharing the vision for VOLTT with the world
