Brothers, het zesde studioalbum van The Black Keys, is opgenomen in de legendarische Muscle Shoals Sound studio in Alabama met additionele sessies in de Easy Eye Sound System Studio van Dan Auerbach in Akron en The Bunker in Brooklyn, is het album grotendeels geproduceerd door The Black Keys, maar ook Danger Mouse (de single Tighten Up) levert net als op het vorige album Attack & Release zijn bijdrage. Drummer Patrick Carney vertelt dat Brothers het album is dat de band altijd al heeft willen maken: “Dan and I grew up a lot as individuals and musicians prior to making this album. Our relationship was tested in many ways but at the end of the day, we’re brothers, and I think these songs reflect that.” Ook de sfeer en spirit van de Muscle Shoals Sound studio was van grote invloed op de 15 nummers van Brothers. Dan Auerbach: “We like spooky sounds… like Alice Coltrane, where a dark groove is laid down. That’s the headspace we tried to get into for this record.”
De afgelopen jaren waren goed en productief voor The Black Keys. Attack & Release uit 2008 groeide uit tot het succesvolste album van het tweetal tot nu toe, begin 2009 bracht Dan Auerbach zijn lovend ontvangen soloalbum Keep It Hid uit en eind 2009 doorbrak The Black Keys haar eigen en muzikale grenzen met het Blakroc project, een samenwerking tussen The Black Keys en hiphopartiesten als Mos Def, Q-Tip, RZA, Raekwon, ODB, Pharoahe Monch, Jim Jones, Nicole Wray, NOE en Billy Danze (M.O.P).
Op 27 juni staat The Black Keys met o.a. Pearl Jam en Stereophonics op Rockin’ Park in Nijmegen. De dag erna doet The Black Keys een headline show in Paradiso
