Toen James McMurtry als zevenjarig jochie z'n eerste gitaar kreeg had Bob Dylan al een van de boeiendste hoofdstukken van de rock-'n-roll geschreven. Een paar jaar eerder was Dylan elektrisch gegaan. Op dat spoor van Dylan’s "Like A Rolling Stone" zou McMurtry consequent doorgaan toen hij twintig jaar na die eerste gitaar eindelijk zijn eerste album mocht opnemen.
