Met het onlangs verschenen album People Gonna Talk lijkt James Hunter af te stevenen op de langverwachte grote doorbraak. De Londenaar biedt een logische toevoeging aan het rijtje klassieke blanke Britse soulzangers als Georgie Fame, Chris Farlowe en Zoot Money. Op hun beurt allen zwaar benvloed door de grote RhythmnBlues innovatoren als Sam Cooke, Ray Charles en Bobby Blue Bland.
